Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Cross Country Earns Many Top Honors

Both the boys and girls teams traveled to St. Johns Cider Mill in St. Johns to compete in the overall TVC Championships. The meet was hosted by Ovid Elsie. Conditions weren’t the most ideal for racing with above average temperatures, wind gusts up to 20mph, and a technical course – but that did not phase our Falcons! Heading into the meet hypothetically we had 1 athlete between teams up for all-conference honors. Instead we had 5 earn all-conference honors! Congratulations to Abby Youngstrom, Kaylee Argyle, Madison O’Deay, Darren Bila, and Matt Tetloff on earning third team all- conference honors!! Team wise the girls were hypothetically picked to finish 7th and they finished 5th out of 22 schools! The boys were hypothetically picked to finish 13th and they finished 9th! I have to congratulate the rest of the varsity rosters for contributing to our team results; Caitlyn Mieske, Hannah Niederquell, Hope Kloha, Eva Markey, Matt Rogers, Aidan East, Austin Whyte, Trent Hulbert, and Carter Vasicek all individually placed higher than expected. It was a tough day for the whole field, but I felt that our athletes out performed others. In the junior varsity races Analise McMillan, Audrey Short, Keeler Steffen and John Kaczor ran well. Great job everyone! The athletes are back in action this Saturday in Birch Run at the Saginaw County Championships. Races start at 10:00am.

Girls Varsity Golf · Girl’s Golf Finish 4th in Regionals

The Freeland girls golf team competed in Regionals on Thursday Oct 12th at Heather Hills in Remeo Michigan after being delayed one day due to weather. Freeland came in with a score of 370 and tied with Goodrich for 4th place. Macomb Lutheran North won the regional with a score of 346 followed by Flint Powers at 350 and taking 3rd was Marysville with a score of 368. Marysville beat us out by 2 shots to take the last spot for States.

Overall we ended up shooting the 7th lowest regional score in the state compared to the other 60 division III teams that competed in the other 5 regionals. Unfortunately our regional featured 4 of the top 9 teams in the state.

Olivia Pumford led the team with an 87 followed by Grace Pumford with a 91, Lily Beyer with a 94, Lydia Back shot a season best 98 and Alyssa Argyle shot a 107. Olivia qualified for States as an individual and will compete at Forest Acres West on Oct 20-21. She was one of the three lowest scores for the players that were not on the three teams that qualified.

Although we are disappointed we still have plenty to be proud of this season: two tournament wins, conference championship, personal best scores, etc. The girls have worked very hard at their mental and physical games and will continue to improve so we can make a run at the state title next year.

Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Cross Country Competes in Heritage Invitational

The boys and girls cross-country teams traveled to Imerman Park this past weekend to compete in the 30th annual Heritage Invitational. The girls’ varsity was our first race of the day. The girls ran well our top four in Madison O’Deay, Abby Youngstrom, Caitlyn Mieske, and Kaylee Argyle ran their second fastest times of the season. Eva Markey was also only 1 second from her personal record time. The boys’ varsity faired close in comparison of how the girls team did. Matt Rogers, Austin Whyte, and Aidan East were close to their personal record times while Trent Hulbert set a new personal best. In the junior varsity races Kaela Gregory had a solid race. Kaela has been struggling with sickness and injury, so it was nice to see her bounce back on Saturday. Keeler Steffen turned in the best performance on the girls side running a season best time on a day that did not produce a lot of them. In the boys junior varsity race Carter Vasicek was seconds from his personal record time and Brad Kalinowski ran a huge season best time. Both teams travel to Roberts Park in Shields this Tuesday for the 3rd and final conference jamboree. Wish them luck!
