The FNV Hockey team traveled to Bay City on Friday, 2-19-21 to play the Tri-Valley Titans. Tri-Valley came out strong and led by the score of 3-1 after the first period. From there on out, the FNV Griffins dominated play by scoring 2 goals in the second period, and then an additional 4 goals in the third period, making the final score 7-3. Liam Simerson had a big night recording 4 goals and picking up an assist for a 5 point night. Also scoring for the Griffins was Joey LeFevre, Brody Wheatley and Jack Linehan. Ayiteh Sowah was in goal for the Griffins recording the win.
On Saturday, the Griffins hosted a tough Davison team and battled them evenly throughout the night. The Griffins took the lead on a goal by Chris Morgan for a 1-0 lead. Davison would come back and tie the game to set up an exciting 3rd period. The Griffin’s Connor Dvorak would score the game winner with under 10 seconds to play to secure a big win for the Griffins. Connor Dvorak, Joey LeFevre and Tyler McKinstry would pick up assists in the game for the Griffins. Ayiteh Sowah would play a solid game in goal for the Griffins making 23 saves.
The Griffins are now 5-1 on the season and currently ranked 10th in the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association poll in Division II. The Griffins face a busy week with games against Bay Area Thunder, the Tri Valley Titans and Dakota High School.
