Falcons News · Freeland Football Advances

Friday night the Falcons hosted the Lancers of Bullock Creek in the 2nd round of District Playoff action.

The Lancers would get the ball first and strike with a 24 up the middle and then Falcon defense would tighten up. The Lancers would go 3 and out and a bad snap on the punt would give Freeland the ball and the Creek 40 yard line. Jacob Kundinger would take the first carry down to the 6 yard line. Then the theme of the night, PENALTIES, would kick in. The Falcons would get called for a hold on the next play followed by a Lancer offsides penalty. Bryson Huckeby would take the option around the left on the next play and make a great pitch to Easton Armstrong and he would walk in from 9 yards out for the first score. Jacob Kundinger would add the extra point and with 8:16 to go in the first the Falcons would take a 7-0 lead.
Bullock Creek would take over on their own 20 on the next possession and manage a single first down before having to punt the ball away again. This time Freeland would get the ball own their own 31 yard line and 6 plays to travel the 69 yards. Once again Bryson would hook up with Easton, but this time through the air with a 45 yard TD strike. Jacob would add his second PAT and with 1:34 to go in the 1st the Falcons would lead 14-0
The 2nd quarter would be filled with penalties by both teams. Bryson Huckeby would have a 22 yard TD called back because of a block in the back and then the Falcons would fumble on the very next play. Bullock Creek got the ball with 5:35 to go in the quarter and 82 yards in 10 plays to score from 14 yards out. The Falcons would throw an interception to the end half, but hang on to a 14-7 lead.
The 3rd quarter was all Freeland. Starting from their own 28 yard line, Bryson would hook up with Jacob Kundinger on the 2nd play from scrimmage on a 70 yard screen pass down to the 1 yard line. Bryson would call his own number and Qb sneak it in with 9:35 to go in the 3rd. Jacob would add another PAT and the Falcons would 21-7.
Freeland would force a Creek 3 and out and would take over their next possession at the Lancer’s 43 yard line. Bryson would get sacked on the first play, but the strong offensive push would allow the falcon running game 57 yards in just 4 plays. Jacob Kundinger would run in from 5 yards out, add the PAT again, and with 4:56 to go in the 3rd Freeland would lead 28-7.
Another 3 and out by the tough Falcon defense would allow Freeland to take over on their own 47 yard line. Easton Armstrong would take the carry around the left side and be off to the races. A Bullock Creek defender would Easton from behind causing him to fumble on the 10 yard line, but a great hustle play by Grant bakos would allow him to scoop up the ball and take it into the endzone for the score. Once again Jacob would hit the PAT and with 3:25 to go in the 3rd, Freeland would lead 35-7.
Bullock Creek would get the ball with 3:22 to go in the 3rd, but be forced to turn the ball over on downs on the first play of the 4th quarter. Bryson would hand the ball off twice before finding back up running back Nathan Levinson open as his 3rd option for a 20 TD catch. Creek would block the PAT and negate the chance at a running clock. With 9:56 to go in the game the Falcons would lead 41-7.
The final 9 minutes was all Bullock Creek. The Falcons were able to get starters off the field and get some much needed experience for some of their younger players. The nice thing about making the playoffs and making a deep run is the experience that you can give to your young players. it helps keep our program growing and gives some of them a chance to get on the field.
Bullock Creek would add three touchdowns with the final one coming with 46 seconds on the clock. The Falcons would walk off the turf with another team victory 41-28 and will take on the Garber Dukes at home, Friday at 7pm.
