Tri Valley East Champions Freeland took on the Tri Valley West Champions Valley Lutheran Wednesday Night at Falcon Soccer field. When the Final whistle sounded it was the Hometown Falcons who left with a 2-1 victory. It was the second meeting of the year between both schools with Freeland also taking the 1st meeting 3-2.
Junior Jensen Powell opened the scoring early in the contest taking a pass out of the air from Senior Stephen Duggan and heading it in the net! Later in the 1st, Sophomore Dalton Polega set up Senior Jacob Crook to make the score 2-0 at halftime. Valley added a late 2nd half goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 but couldn’t get the equalizer to tie. Sophomore Gavin Spaulding turned away 5 shots including some big diving stops for the Freeland keep.
At halftime the Falcons honored fallen Alumni and former teammate Ben Younglao who played for the Falcons from 2014 to 2017. Ben passed away Oct 6th and our current Falcon team honored his memory with a touching dedication at the break.
Next up for the Falcons are the District Playoff Semifinals Tuesday at Bullock Creek High School. Freeland takes on Alma on 10/20 at 4:30pm. It will be the 2nd meeting with the Panthers as Freeland took the first 6-1.
