Falcons News · Cross Country Competes at Heritage Invitational

The boys and girls cross-country teams traveled to White Pine Middle School to compete in the 33rd annual Saginaw Heritage Invitational.  The boys team welcomed Braydon Honsinger back to the lineup for the first time this season.  Jacob Wurtzel and Braydon led the boys team to a 6th place team finish in a field made up of mainly division one schools.  Jacob and Braydon were both medalists finishing 4th and 6th respectively.

The girls varsity team knew they would be in a tight team battle with Midland Dow heading into the race.  Kiera Hansen, Whitney Farrell, and Mara Longenecker were patient upfront letting Dow and Alpena’s number one runners jump out to an early lead.  Kiera, Mara, and Whitney slowly reeled in the Alpena girl and Kiera was able to track down the Dow girl with just over a half mile to go.  Kiera, Whitney, and Mara finished 1st, 3rd, and 4th respectively.  Bella Reed had a strong finish in 12th place and Sasha Seegobin, Paige Kloha, and Ally Harvey moved up well throughout to finish in 16th, 18th, and 24th respectively.  Kiera, Whitney, Mara, and Bella all medaled.  The girls team finished in 1st place with 35 points to Midland Dows 69.

The girls JV race was an exciting one.  Several runners of host Saginaw Heritage jumped out to the lead early on in the race, but this did not rattle our girls.  Our girls remained calm, stuck to their race plan and moved up very well through the race.  Ainsley Miller won the race followed by her teammates Hannah Niederquell, Hope Kloha, Lawson Brady, and Erin Collier finishing in 2nd, 7th, 8th, and 12th respectively.  All five girls earned medals for their efforts.  Running season best times were Hannah Niederquell, Hope Kloha and Lily NItz.  Running personal record times were; Erin Collier and Liv Hawkes.

The final race on the day was the boys and girls reserve race.  Mark Smith and Jeremiah both raced well.  Mark’s time of 25:32 is a personal record and Jeremiah’s time of 26:51 was a season best.  Lilliana Duus and Deena Dutkiewicz both turned in personal record times while Madison Dutton ran her season best time.  Congratulations to Mark, Madison, Lillianna, and Deena for earning medals in their respective races.

Both teams are back in action this Tuesday in the final of three conference jamborees.  Wish them luck!
