June 1st MHSAA D2 Finals
Last Saturday our qualifiers traveled to Zeeland East high school to compete in the MHSAA state finals for division two. Noah Klopf and Jack Townsend started our morning off with long jump. Noah just missed the top 9 jumpers in order to advance to the finals. Jack Townsend made finals and finished all-state honorable mention in 8th place with a jump of 20’-10.75”. Congratulations Jack! Also competing at the same time was Kirsten Spegel in the girls shot put. Kirsten had a great day with a throw of 37’-8.5” to finish all-state and on the podium in 5th place. Great job Kirsten! Our girls 4×800 meter relay team of Peyton Hansen, Kiera Hansen, Mara Longenecker, and Whitney Farrell was the first event on the track. The girls won their heat and finished 13th overall with a new team personal record and three spots ahead of their seeded placement. After the relay some bad weather rolled in and we headed into a three-hour weather delay. After the delay Noah Klopf and Abby Youngstrom ran strong races in the 110 and 100 meter hurdles, but missed qualifying for the finals. Just before the 4×200 relay the meet was postponed for another 30-minute weather delay. Back on the track our 4×200 relay team of Noah Klopf, Keaton Knochel, Layne Moergeli, and Trent Hulbert ran their fastest time of the season for that particular relay lineup. Next up was Noah Klopf in the 300 hurdles. Noah ran a very strong race for about ¾ of it until he clipped the last two hurdles which put him outside of the medaling. Abby Youngstrom ended the day for the Falcons in the 300 hurdles finishing in 6th place overall and capping her amazing high school career with another all-state podium finish. The coaching staff would like to once again congratulation all of our state qualifiers on an outstanding season.
The track and field teams will celebrate our season with our end of the year awards banquet this Wednesday at 6:00pm. The location of the banquet will be the Tittabawassee Township Park, (weather back up will be the high school cafeteria). All athletes must turn in uniforms in order to receive their awards.
