Falcons News · Freeland Hosts Korf-Schultz Saginaw County Track Meet

Freeland High School hosted the annual Korf-Schultz Saginaw County Championships track and field meet last night.  This meet features 16 different schools spread out among four different MHSAA divisions.  The meet is unique since there are no automatic entries given to any school.  Instead athletes must qualify in order to compete in the meet.  The current field size is limited to 18 athletes per event.  Freeland High School boys team had representation in 15/17 events and our girls team had representation in 17/17 events.

The coaching staff would like to start by acknowledging our county champions; Jack Townsend – long jump champion, 4×800 relay of Gage Fitzgerald, Darren Bila, Ben Wellnitz, and Jacob Wurtzel, Noah Klopf – 110 hurdle champion, Noah Klopf – 300 hurdles champion, Kirsten Spegel – shot put champion, 4×800 relay of Kiera Hansen, Alyssa Graham, Mara Longenecker, and Whitney Farrell, Abby Youngstrom – 300 hurdle champion, Kiera Hansen – 3200 champion, and Whitney Farrell – 1600 champion.  Additional congratulations to Noah Klopf for being named the 2019 Saginaw County meet MVP.  Additional congratulations to Abby Youngstrom for breaking her own school record of 46.68 with a finish time of 46.50.

Congratulations to our other all-county award recipients; Gage Fitzgerald – 3rd 400 dash, Darren Bila – 4th 800 run, Darren Bila – 3rd 1600 run, Jacob Wurtzel – 2nd 3200 run, Keaton Knochel – 5th 110 hurdles, Keaton Knochel – 5th 300 hurdles, 4×200 relay – 4th (Klopf, Knochel, Townsend, Hulbert), 4×400 relay – 2nd (Fitzgerald, Robins, Townsend, Hulbert), Alex Robins – 5th High Jump, Taylor Armbruster – 4th Pole Vault, Noah Klopf – 2nd Long Jump, Caitlinn Pistro – 5th 100 dash, Caitlinn Pistro – 5th 200 dash, Peyton Hansen – 2nd 800 run, Alyssa Graham – 3rd 800 run, Lawson Brady – 4th 1600 run, Lydia Klopf – 5th 300 hurdles, 4×200 relay 5th (Youngstrom, Gregorgy, Mieske, Pistro), 4×400 relay 3rd (Hansen, Mieske, Youngstrom, Longenecker), Kirsten Spegel – 5th discus, Kaela Gregory – 2nd high jump, Arianna Lazzaro  – 3rd pole vault, Lauren Ostrowski – 4th pole vault, and Caitlinn Pistro – 4th long jump.

With the conclusion of yesterday’s meet comes the conclusion of our 2019 regular season.  The coaching staff would like to thank all of our athletes on a great season.  We would also like to thank all of our seniors for all of their dedication and commitment to our program during their high school careers.  We wish them nothing but the best!

Our state qualifiers, (Noah Klopf – Long Jump, 110H, 300H, Jack Townsend – Long Jump, 4×200, Keaton Knochel – 4×200, Trent Hulbert – 4×200, Abby Youngstrom – 100 H, 300 H, Kirsten Spegel – Shot Put, Discus, Whitney Farrell – 4×800, Mara Longenecker – 4×800, Peyton Hansen – 4×800, Kiera Hansen – 4×800), will compete this Saturday at the MHSAA finals.  Wish them good luck!
