Freeland and Swan Valley split DH in TVC Central baseball action
It took two separate days to complete, but the weather finally cooperated and the result was a DH split between Freeland and the host Swan Valley Vikings. On Tuesday, April 30 Freeland traveled to Swan Valley and dropped game one by the score of 6-3. Both teams committed two errors, leading to unearned runs on both sides. Tyler McLaren (6.0 IP, 6 R, 9 H, 2 ER, 5 K, BB) went the distance on the mound for the Falcons. Elijah Vlassis (2 H, RBI, R), Zac Mieske (H, R), Jonas Welles (H, BB), and Carston Yaw (H) led the Falcon offense. The Falcons trailed early 3-0 and battled back to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth inning, but the Vikings put four runs on the board in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead.
In game two, the Falcons and Vikings were tied 1-1 after two innings and was then suspended due to rain. The game was resumed on Friday, May 3 with the Falcons claiming the win 4-3. The Vikings scored a run in the top of the third inning, but the Falcons responded with three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Aaron Dominowski made the defensive play of the game in the top of the seventh inning to help preserve the victory. Nolan VanLoo cut down an attempted baserunner trying to steal late in the game to take away the potential tying run. Alex Duley (7.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) earned the win on the mound. Carston Yaw (2 H, 2B, BB, RBI), Elijah Vlassis (2 H, 2B, 2 R), Jonas Welles (H, 2 RBI), Zac Mieske (H, RBI), Tyler McLaren (H, R), Brendan Maly (H, R) paced the Falcon offense. Several key hits occurred with two strikes and the players did an excellent job adjusting in those situations. The Falcons are now 10-6 overall and 2-2 in the TVC Central. The Falcons travel to Shepherd on Tuesday, May 7.
