The Freeland girls golf team won the Tri-Valley Conference East Division Championship after taking 1st in the final conference match Wednesday at the Fortress in Frankenmuth.
Freeland came in 1st at the 9 hole jamboree with a score of 176. Frankenmuth took second with a 185. Olivia Pumford led the team for the day with a 41, Grace Pumford took 2nd with a 42, followed by Lily Beyer with a 44. Alyssa Argyle shot 49 and Lydia Back shot 50.
It was a great day because we also had our JV team playing in the event and gaining experience playing the long course.
From a conference perspective, Freeland won by 103 strokes. Olivia Pumford, Lily Beyer, Grace Pumford and Alyssa Argyle made first team all-conference. We had 5 players place in the top 8 of the conference for the season which is an incredible finish for the Falcons. Olivia placed 1st overall, Lily placed 2nd, Grace tied for 3rd, Alyssa took 6th and Lydia placed 8th (2nd team all conference). Madison Wilder finished in 19th place just 2 shots out of all conference honorable mention.
Freeland plays at in the Byron Invitational next Wednesday, 10/4 at 9am. This will be an 18 hole tournament to round out the season before heading to regionals at Heather Hills in Romeo on 10/11/17. The top three teams at Regionals will qualify for States in East Lansing.
