The Freeland girls volleyball hosted the Alma Panthers Wed night a prevailed with a hard fought 3-1 win (25-10, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16). The Lady Panthers were coming off a weekend win over 6th ranked Swan Valley and were also undefeated in TVC play.
The Falcons jumped out early in set one 8-3, after a Bailey DeSander ace and a Caitlinn Pistro kill pushed the lead to 17-5 before prevailing at 25-10.
Set two started much different. Six serving errors by the Flacons and strong offense by the Panthers put them in deficits 2-7 and 15-20 before dropping the set 21-25.
The Falcons regained form in set three as a Pistro ace gave them an early 6-2 lead. Caroline Talaga and Mady Rappley teamed up for a block to extend the lead to 12-2. Alma closed the gap to 18-9 before the raucous student section, led by the girls golf team, inspired the ladies to close the door at 25-16.
Alma played tough to start set four and trailed only by two at 10-8. However, strong serving and tenacious defense gave the Falcons a 14-9 lead that would never relinquish. An ace by Madison Wegner finished off the Panthers 25-11.
Tonight the Falcons were led by Pistro with 20 kills and 7 aces. DeSander took charge of passing on serve receive and defense tallying a season high of 45 digs. Noelle Duley had 17 kills and 28 digs. Taylor Bakos and Caroline Talaga contributed 3 blocks each. Betsy Cook dished up 45 assists and 5 aces.
Freeland improves their record to 24-5-2, and 3-0 in the TVC Central. They play next at home as they host a quad on Monday and 6th ranked Swan Valley on Wednesday, October 4 for Teacher Appreciation night.
