MSU CC 17-18

The boys and girls cross-country teams traveled to East Lansing last Friday to compete in the Michigan State Cross-Country Invitational. The invite is one of the biggest invitationals in the entire state. Thousands of runners compete between the middle schools, high schools, and colleges. For anyone who loves cross-country the environment is electric. Unfortunately for all those runners the warm weather from earlier in the week stuck around.
Despite the unseasonably warm temperatures both teams had individuals that competed very well. On the girls side our top three in Madison O’Deay, Kaylee Argyle, and Abby Youngstrom continued their consistent running by finishing within 4 seconds of each other. Abby was able to turn in a season best performance of 22:58 dipping below 23 minutes for the first time this season. Caitlyn Mieske had a very solid run back from sickness finishing in 4th place for our girl’s team. Hannah Niederquell managed a 14 second personal record time to round out our top 5 girl finishers on the day. I also want to add that Annalise McMillan and Keeler Steffen ran very close to their season best times in our junior varsity race which was one of the hottest races of the day.
The boys team was lead by Matt Tetloff who turned in a solid effort running his second best time of the season. Matt Rogers, Austin Whyte, and Trent Hulbert also managed the heat well producing solid efforts in less than ideal conditions. Brenden Klich was our best boy runner on the day turning in a season best time. Brad Kalinowski and Nick Schlitt also navigated the course close to their season best times.
All-in-all despite the warm weather both teams never complained about the heat. They warmed up, toed the line, and raced. Though everyone’s times may not have matched their efforts everyone will be better for it later this season.
Both teams are back in action this Thursday at Frankenmuth High School for their home invitational. The first race starts at 4:30.
