Freeland falls early in Ann Heisler Varsity Volleyball Tournament.

A two set loss (19-25 and 24-26) to Cass City in the opening round of the Gold division doomed the Falcons volleyball squad to an early exit Saturday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Freeland swept the first round of pool play with wins over Elkton Pigeon Bayport 25-11, 25-11 and Essexville Garber 25-14, 25-8. In round two of pool play the Falcons beat Hemlock 25-13, 24-26, 15-7 and lost to Class A St Johns 28-30, 15-25 to place them into the Gold division. A scrappy Cass City would eventually end their day.

The Falcons were led by Noelle Duley with 53 kills, Caitlin Pistro with 7 aces, Bailey Desander with 30 digs, Caroline Talaga with 4 blocks and Betsy Cook with 125 assists.

The Falcons overall record moves to 22-5-2, and 1-0 in conference play. Freeland’s next game is on the road against conference foe Chesaning on Wednesday night at 7 PM.
