Freeland Varsity Baseball Wins Two

Game 1:  Freeland – 5, Swan Valley – 4

Freeland jumped out to an early 4 – 0 lead, but Swan Valley scored 2 runs each in the 3rd and 5th innings to tie the score.  Freeland scored the eventual winning run in the 5th inning.  Two key double plays and strong defensive play late in the game from Jake Kelsey and Nate Guentert helped preserve the victory.  Garhet Metiva started on the mound allowing only 1 hit and 3 earned runs and Tyler McLaren came in to finish the game and earn the victory.  Tyler pitched 3 strong innings allowing only 1 hit and no runs.  Leading hitters were Elijah Vlassis (3 H, R), Ben Fleming (2 H, BB, RBI, R), Tyler McLaren (2 H, 2 RBI), Brendan Booms (2 H, RBI), Garhet Metiva (2 H), Jake Kelsey (H, BB, 2 R), Nate Guentert (H, BB).
Game 2:  Freeland – 7, Swan Valley – 6
Swan Valley built a 6 – 2 lead, but the Falcons battled back in the bottom of the 7th scoring 5 runs for the walk-off victory.  Ben Fleming pitched the first 5 innings and Tyler McLaren came on for the final 2 innings for the victory.  Tyler allowed only 1 run and struck out 3.  Leading hitters were Elijah Vlassis (2 H, including the game-winning RBI), Adam Rivette (BB, RBI, and scored game-winning run), Jake Kelsey (H, BB, 2 R), Nate Guentert (3 BB, RBI), Matt Rogers and Tyler McLaren both added a hit and an RBI.
The Varsity Falcons are now 4 and 3 in conference standings.
